Michael Shumway, CFRE, Senior Executive Consultant

Michael Shumway came to O’Meara Ferguson in 2006, bringing nearly 20 years experience as a development professional working within the Catholic Church.

As the Director of Development for Cathedral Unit School and St. Mary Basilica Parish in Natchez, Mississippi, he provided the strategy and leadership to build the initial development program. Michael later served as the Director of Annual Support Programs and a Major Gift Officer for Saint Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana. While there, he managed all aspects of their direct mail program and development database operations, and helped to organize and implement Saint Meinrad’s successful $40 million comprehensive campaign in 2002. During his time at Saint Meinrad, Michael earned the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) designation, which he has maintained to the present.

Following his work at the Archabbey, Michael served as Director of Resource Development for Home of the Innocents, a children’s agency that cares for vulnerable children. He provided leadership for the conclusion of a $25 million capital campaign and managed the stewardship of the resulting resources to further the mission of the organization. Two years as Director of Development with the Public Radio Partnership in Louisville, Kentucky, has given Michael insight and experience in the use of broadcasting for mission advancement.

Michael has lectured and led programs on fundraising topics including CASE development, Stewardship, Annual Support, Major Gifts, Planned Gifts and Capital Campaigns, and has been an adjunct presenter for the Center for Non Profit Excellence in Kentucky. Active in the development profession and his community, he has served as a member of the Board of the Greater Louisville Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Board of Trustees for Saint Catherine College.
