In various ways, then, stewardship of the Church leads people to share in the work of evangelization or proclaiming the Good News. (Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response, page 12)

Catholics today hear a lot about “evangelization.” What does this word mean for us? Why is it so important to our Catholic faith? How is it connected to stewardship as a way of life?

Evangelization means bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking the conversion of individuals and society by the power of the Gospel. This was a major theme of the Second Vatican Council, and it has been strongly emphasized by all of our recent popes.

Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical on missionary activity, summed up the three objectives of evangelization or mission: to proclaim the Gospel to all people; to help bring about the reconversion of those who have received the Gospel but live it only nominally; and to deepen the Gospel in the lives of believers
